PhD Scholarship in Online Mis/Disinformation Debunking

This project examines the people and communities involved in online mis/disinformation debunking to understand the types of approaches being used and their effectiveness.

This project invites mixed-methods and interdisciplinary candidates to investigate online debunking practices with the aim of identifying and testing potentially effective strategies to counter mis/disinformation.

To be eligible for this scholarship you must: 

  • Have a first-class Honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (e.g., information science, sociology, digital humanities, computer science, information systems, media studies).
  • Have strong social research (quantitative/qualitative) design and analysis skills.
  • Provide evidence of strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Meet RMIT University's entry requirements for the Higher Degree by Research programs.

The scholarship is open to both domestic and international applicants, but the applicant must be living in Australia upon commencement of the PhD.

  • An academic CV that includes any publications/awards and the contact details of two referees 
  • A copy of electronic academic transcripts. 
  • A cover letter explaining the applicant's suitability for the project.
  • A research statement of 1 or 2 pages where the potential candidate outlines the research problem and question(s) to be studied, proposed methods, and a brief reference list.

For international applicants, evidence of English proficiency may be required.

Mixed-methods research experience is a strong asset.
