How to prove your eligibility


Australian and New Zealand citizens

Complete your Evidence of student eligibility declaration online and verify your citizenship online using your current citizenship document (see Acceptable documents tab for acceptable forms of current citizenship documents):

  1. Have your current citizenship document ready
  2. Log in to Enrolment Online
  3. Select Enrol
  4. Enter your document details when you are prompted to do so and verify your citizenship
  5. Complete the Evidence of student eligibility declaration, including details of your previous study or qualifications
  6. Agree to the student declaration
  7. Submit your Evidence of student eligibility declaration online. An RMIT staff member may contact you to discuss your responses and assess your eligibility for a government subsidised place
  8. When you receive email confirmation that your assessment has been completed, log in to Enrolment Online and acknowledge your assessment outcome
  9. Continue with your online enrolment

Your eligibility for a government subsidised place is usually assessed within 48 hours, but may take longer during peak enrolment periods.
 

Australian permanent residents and Permanent Humanitarian Visa holders

Complete your Evidence of student eligibility declaration online and verify visa entitlements in person:

  1. Have your passport / Immicard AND current evidence of your visa entitlement ready (such as your Visa Grant Notice or current Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) entitlement statement)
  2. Log in to Enrolment Online
  3. Select Enrol
  4. Complete the Evidence of student eligibility declaration, including details of your previous study or qualifications.
  5. Enter your document details when you are prompted to do so
  6. Upload a scan or photo of your documents, and agree to the student declaration
  7. Submit your Evidence of student eligibility declaration online
  8. When you receive email confirmation that your assessment has been completed, login to Enrolment Online and acknowledge your assessment outcome
  9. Continue with your online enrolment
     

Please note

If your Evidence of student eligibility declaration indicates that you are ineligible for a government subsidised place then you may be offered a full-fee place at RMIT. Find out the full-fee rate for your program by using the RMIT fee finder.

If you already verified your citizenship when you enrolled in a previous program, you may be prompted to show the original or certified copy of the document you verified. Provide your documents to Student Connect as soon as possible.

Acceptable documents

For the smoothest enrolment experience it is recommended that Australian and New Zealand citizens use a valid passport for your Evidence of student eligibility declaration.

If you do not have a valid passport, you can use one of the following documents for your evidence of eligibility:

* You must also provide documents that prove your citizenship/residency status, such as a valid passport, Australian birth certificate, or evidence of permanent residence, before you can enrol.

Important: If you are under 20 as at 1 January, and the document you provide as evidence does not state your date of birth, then you must also provide one of the following:

  • current driver license
  • current learner permit
  • Proof of Age card
  • Keypass card

Refer to the table below for document details you will need to enter for online verification of your citizenship documents.

Document Document details required

Australian passport – must be a current passport

  • Passport number (between 7-9 letters and numbers with no spaces)
  • Issue date and Expiration date in DD/MM/YYYY format

Australian citizenship certificate

  • Stock number (typically found on the back of the certificate – enter all letters and numbers without any spaces)
  • Date citizenship was acquired (not the date the certificate was issued) in DD/MM/YYYY format
Australian birth certificate   

Victoria, New South Wales, and Western Australia certificates:

  • Registration number (typically found at the top of the certificate – do not enter ‘/’ and year)
  • Registration year – listed with the registration number, separated by the ‘/’

Australian Capital Territory and Northern Territory certificates:

  • Registration number – located towards the bottom of the certificate
  • Registration year – listed near the registration number
  • Certificate number – located at the bottom-left corner near the stamp.
  • Certificate printed date – the date at the bottom of the certificate, adjacent to the signature

Queensland certificates:

  • Registration number – located at the top-right of the certificate. Enter it exactly as it appears on your certificate
  • Registration date – located towards the bottom of your certificate, in the section titled "Registrar"

South Australia certificates:

  • Registration number – located towards the bottom of the certificate
  • Certificate number – located at the bottom-left corner near the stamp
  • Certificate printed date – located at the bottom of the certificate next to the signature

New Zealand passport – must be a current passport

  • Passport number (up to 7 letters and numbers without any spaces)
  • Issue date and Expiration date in DD/MM/YYYY format
