Wherever possible, learning is contextualised to industry applications. Also, demonstrations and practical or workplace sessions will be incorporated wherever appropriate in the delivery strategy.
Classes are interactive and give you many opportunities to discuss ideas and practise new skills. You are also expected to undertake self-directed learning in addition to those activities provided in class. The self-directed learning will often be based upon research and reading of relevant knowledge elements of the course.
Where you have the opportunity to do so, you are encouraged to apply skill elements in your actual workplace.
Assessment tasks are designed to simulate the workplace and require you to demonstrate the practical application of your knowledge.
Ongoing assessment throughout each semester includes reports, presentations, group and individual projects, case studies, client projects, tests and work-simulated projects.
The types of classes you have will depend on the course you’re studying. Classes are offered in various formats designed to provide meaningful engagement with staff, industry and peers and provide for access and use of spaces where learning can be applied and active, including an array of specialised equipment.
Most RMIT courses do not include passive large-scale classes such as lectures, instead the content traditionally provided in lectures is made available online. This may be in the form of readings, videos or other on-demand learning materials. This content will also support the basis of interactive learning that takes place in on-campus classes.
This diploma has been developed with extensive input from industry to ensure your learning prepares you effectively for current and future industry needs.
Project management professionals from the construction industry will speak in your classes to enhance your knowledge of the industry and give context to the theory and concepts you learn. You will also complete work-integrated learning projects during the semester, giving you an understanding of the real-world application of project management skills in the construction industry. This practical experience will complement your theoretical knowledge and enhance your communication, problem-solving and self-management abilities to meet workplace expectations.
