RMIT Accommodation Scholarship

For commencing students moving to Melbourne or Bendigo to study at RMIT; worth up to $6,000.

Semester 1 applicants: This scholarship provides $6,000 for one year for full-time enrolled students and $3,000 for one year for part-time enrolled students.

Semester 2 applicants: This scholarship provides provides $3,000 for one semester for full-time enrolled students and $1,500 for one semester for part-time enrolled students.

This scholarship provides funds to assist in financing rental/shared accommodation in Melbourne or Bendigo.

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident or a permanent humanitarian visa holder
  • be from an interstate or rural/regional area and moving/moved to Melbourne for the first time to study at one of RMIT’s Melbourne campuses in semester 1 2025, or moving/moved a distance greater than 90 minutes from your home location to study for the first time at RMIT’s Bendigo campus in semester 1 2025
  • be commencing study in semester 1 2025 in a certificate IV, diploma, undergraduate degree or postgraduate by coursework program at RMIT
  • be enrolling in a program with a duration of at least one semester
  • be able to demonstrate financial hardship such as:
    • receiving a government tested low income benefit or having a Centrelink Health Care Card
  • be able to demonstrate circumstance/s which impact your ability to study such as:
    • living with a disability, long-term medical condition or identify as neurodiverse
    • experiencing personal/family/social difficulties
    • have previously/are currently living in foster/kinship care or are a ward of the state
    • be from an under-represented background such as
      • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
      • were born overseas, are from a non-English background and recently migrated to Australia
      • current or former refugee
      • completed secondary school at a School Network Access Program school
  • have not previously commenced or completed a program at the same level of study or higher.

If you are a certificate IV or diploma student you must:

  • have a government-subsidised place
  • not be enrolled in an apprenticeship or traineeship program.

If you are a degree or honours student you must:

  • have a Commonwealth supported place

The scholarship application process is highly competitive with a limited number of scholarships available. Unfortunately, not all eligible applicants will receive one.

Only successful candidates will be notified via email to their RMIT student account.
