Classes are offered in various formats designed to provide meaningful engagement with staff, industry and peers and provide for access and use of spaces where learning can be applied and active, including an array of specialised equipment.
Most RMIT courses do not include passive large-scale classes such as lectures, instead the content traditionally provided in lectures is made available online. This may be in the form of readings, videos or other on-demand learning materials. This content will also support the basis of interactive learning that takes place in on-campus classes.
With the opportunity to undertake industry placements locally or internationally, you'll be work-ready when you graduate.
The School of Engineering, and the College of Business and Law, have extensive links with industry through their Industry Advisory Committees, with members drawn from external industry and professional institutions. The committees provide feedback and input into the curriculum, ensuring the degree remains relevant to your needs as a graduate and to the needs of employers.
Before graduating, you are strongly encouraged to complete at least 10 weeks of engineering industry experience. This allows you to gain first-hand experience in a real-world environment under the supervision of a practising professional engineer. The nature and timing of this experience can take a range of forms.
You may also choose to take part in a six or twelve month industry placement, either locally or internationally. This provides the opportunity for you to gain academic credit and paid industrial experience, which may lead to an industry-linked final year project or potential full-time employment.
In your final year, you will undertake a major project that is either industry-based or simulates an industrial situation. Combining and further developing the key theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for your field, you’ll work with industry leaders to solve a project challenge.
There are also opportunities to tackle research projects in partnership with industry, like the Engineers Without Borders Challenge Scholarship.
