About

A/Prof. Richard Tay is an internationally recognised expert in transport and road safety and serves on the editorial board of 18 academic journals. He is ranked in the top 1% worldwide and top 5 transport researchers in Australia (the only one who specialises in road safety). RMIT University was ranked sole first in the State of Victoria and sole second in Australia in Excellence in Research, Australia (ERA) in 2018. He had six grants from the Australian Research Council (ARC), five from the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada, and two from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) if Canada. He has served on numerous international, national and state government taskforces, committees and advIsory panels. He also has served as a member of scientific committees for many international and national conferences.

 

Invited to discuss research and policy implications with many government agencies, including  Victoria Parliamentary Road Safety Committee; Victoria Parliamentary Committee on Drug and Crime; Victoria Department of Justice; Victoria Police Services; Queensland Transport; Queensland Parliamentary Travel Safe Committee; Queensland Police Services; Transportation Research Board, USA; National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, USA; Advocates for Highway Safety in USA; Superintendent, Department of Motor Vehicle, British Columbia; Assistant Minister for Seniors Affairs, Alberta; Assistant Minister for Transportation, Alberta; Minister of Transport and Communications, Singapore; plus visiting government officials from Germany, Ireland, Canada, Vietnam, Indonesia, China, USA, UK, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia

 

Richard has been Invited regularly to speak and comment on transportation and road safety issues by the media, including the New York Times, Washington Post, International Herald Tribune, Los Angeles Weekly, National Post, London Times, Globe and Mail, CBC TV, CBC News National, CTV News, Global TV, Calgary Herald, Calgary Sun, Edmonton Sun, Edmonton Journal, Toronto Sun, Vancouver Sun, CBC Radio, The Australian, The Age, Courier Mail, Herald Sun, 3AW, etc., as well as news media in Singapore, UK, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Hong Kong, New Zealand & Korea.
