Indigenous Research Network

The Indigenous Research Network is a transdisciplinary network, bringing together academics, HDRs, community, industry, and practitioners around the theme of excellence in Indigenous research.

The Indigenous Research Network supports the University in its commitment to pursuing excellence in Indigenous research, creating positive impact with integrity that is Indigenous led, engages meaningfully with and is of benefit to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and society more broadly.

The network is focused on creating a research environment open to community engagement, working for and with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders, Traditional Owners, Advisor Groups, and researchers pursuing responsible, respectful practice, producing innovative, high-impact outcomes that advance community aspirations and success.

Themes

The IRN encourages its members to develop research aligned to the broad themes of Indigenous Health, Indigenous Education, Sustainability and the Environment, and specifically promote Indigenous Knowledges contributions to the University’s research strengths.

Membership and contacting the network

Membership includes HDRs students, doctorial fellows, and researchers at all stages of their careers. We encourage connections with professional staff working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities or on Indigenous research, such as the Centre of Innovative Justice, Activator, and the Workforce Innovative Development Institute (WIDI). The network is tiered to form an internal support and mentoring structure for Indigenous HDR students and early carer researchers (ECR), and includes research activity with RMIT Europe and Vietnam.
