Dr. Rachel Goff
Rachel Goff is a lecturer in social sciences and social work in the School of Global, Urban and Social Studies at RMIT University.
Rachel (she/they) is a social sciences and social work educator and researcher in the Social Work and Human Services cluster at the City Campus, RMIT University in Melbourne. Rachel completed their PhD in 2021, focusing on the experiences and aspirations of families with who have involvement with family services in community-based support.
Rachel's research interests include the use of creative, emancipatory and collaborative design methodologies that enable the meaningful involvement of communities in research and to achieve impactful social change. Rachel's practice background includes working with children, young people and families, First Nations communities, with the LGBTIQA+ community and with people undergoing faith transitions resulting from conversion therapy and other religious trauma.
Rachel also has consultancy experience in service design and in equity and inclusion. Rachel's teaching across the cluster draws upon human-centered design practices, aimed to equip students to think more critically about community-driven impact and outcomes. Thus, Rachel's work straddles the transdisciplinary space between design and the applied social sciences. Rachel is influenced by desire-centered, design, de-colonising, constructionist and socially-focused theories and concepts.
Rachel coordinates and teaches courses in the Bachelor of Social Sciences/Psychology undergraduate program. Rachel is also involved in a number of research projects and other industry engagement activities in line with their research interests.
