Dr Bronwyn Coate is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing at RMIT. In both teaching and research Bronwyn takes a multi-disciplinary perspective that demonstrates how economic and business concepts can be applied to many diverse areas within business and society, to help make sense of the complex world we live, work and operate within. Bronwyn also collaborates with experts from a range of disciplines within academia as well as industry professionals and policy makers to address real world problems in both her teaching and research.
At RMIT she also co-leads the Gender, Equity and Organisations theme within the Centre of Organisations and Social Change. Additionally, she co-founded and co-leads the Cultural Value Impact Network which champions interdisciplinary approaches to articulating cultural value. Bronwyn is a member of the Behavioural Business Lab at RMIT and Editor of Book Reviews for the Journal of Cultural Economics.
Dr Bronwyn Coate is a Senior Lecturer based in the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing at RMIT University where she lectures in a number of economics courses including most recently Understanding the Business Environment.
As an applied economist who is passionate about learning and teaching, Bronwyn brings insights from her research as well as her industry connections to inform her teaching and to inspire the next generation of social and business leaders.
Dr Bronwyn Coate is a cultural economist who uses a range of methods and insights, including approaches from behavioural economics to contribute to understanding about the cultural & creative industries (CCI), the arts & culture and cultural entrepreneurship.

Aside from her scholarly publications Bronwyn regularly shares insights from her research in various media outlets (such as The Conversation) to help communicate her research. Bronwyn also routinely works with a wide variety of industry partners including the City of Melbourne, Creative Australia, the Victorian Music Development Office (VMDO) as well as creative practitioners at the coalface of navigating a creative career. She also works with academics from other disciplines and policy makers to provide an evidence base to inform policy assessment and design.
Bronwyn has contributed to Parliamentary Inquiries including submissions made concerning the new cultural policy Revive and previously concerning Australia’s creative and cultural industries and institutions. A hallmark of Bronwyn’s approach as a researcher is reflected in her advocacy for the Australian arts and cultural sector.
Additionally, Bronwyn has served the peak international scholarly society for cultural economics, the Association for Cultural Economics International (ACEI) in the key role of Executive Secretary / Treasurer from 2018-2023. She is currently the Editor of Book Reviews, for the Journal of Cultural Economics.
