Dr Lydia Thiagarajah is a lecturer with the RMIT University Graduate School of Law. She holds a Bachelor, Master and PhD qualifications in law, qualified as a Barrister from Gray’s Inn (London) and has been admitted to both the Supreme Court of Victoria and the High Court of Malaya and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Lydia has over 20 years of proven experience in senior executive roles spanning accounting firms and commercial firms that include acting as a tax director, a non-executive director, a company secretary and as an independent consultant/advisor.
With her unique experience in industry and academia, Lydia critically examines tax, corporate and employment law issues and offers fresh insights. Her articles have appeared in leading journals such as the Australian Tax Forum and the Australian Tax Review on important policy issues such as childcare deductions and the fringe benefits tax childcare exemption. Her forthcoming publication in the Adelaide Law Review questions the independent contractor status of on-demand platform workers.
Lydia has experience teaching Business and Corporations Law, Taxation Law and Contract Law.

Lydia's research interest includes matters relating to tax law, corporate governance, fiscal & economic policy and regulatory compliance.
