Research scholarships and grants

There are many grants are available to support Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students during candidature. Explore available funding to help you pursue excellence in your research.

The 2025 RMIT Research Funded Scholarship round has now closed, and we are no longer accepting applications for centrally awarded scholarships.

Candidates are welcome to apply outside the designated window for research projects funded through alternative sources, including school or college-based scholarships, industry-sponsored scholarships, or other financial guarantees.

Information on the opening and closing dates for the 2026 RMIT Research Funded Scholarship round will be available from April 2025.

In addition to the scholarships and grants listed below, HDR students may also be eligible for external scholarships. See Good Universities Guide for external scholarship listsings and SmartSat CRC (Masters & PHD) scholarships.

  • STEM includes studies in computing technologies, natural and physical sciences, mathematics, engineering, and health and biomedical sciences. 
  • Business and law includes studies in accounting, supply chain and logistics, entrepreneurship, law, economics, finance and marketing. 
  • Design and social context includes studies in architecture, art, design, education, fashion, media and communication, property management and social studies.
