We ask Nikhil Daftary, the CEO/Managing Director of Coral Healthcare Pty Ltd, six questions about being a business owner.
I studied a Masters in Finance, to compliment my Bachelors Degree in Commerce (triple major in Accounting, Finance and Commercial law) and CPA.
Healthcare (medical consumables to hospitals and ultrasound companies) and Sexual health & wellness (condoms, pleasure toys and lubricants) supplying to Coles supermarket.
Australia’s largest healthcare company and number one condom company in Australia.
As I was featured in the CFO magazine, Safety in Numbers – From Finance to Condom creator – accounting and finance has always been close to me. For a successful business, one has to be on top of the numbers and my studies has really helped me do that.
Always do your research and plan well ahead. It’s not like a T20 cricket match, it's more like a long test match where patience, strategy and winning in small sessions works. My number one piece of advice is not to ever have a Plan B. Instead, keep working on Plan A because failure is never an option for me. You also need to have a strong business plan that you follow closely.
Most of my accounting and finance career experience was in healthcare and that’s the industry I knew very well. Over the years I gained huge support from top executives in large healthcare organisation and learned quite a bit. Not to sound too cliché, but I wanted to make a difference in people’s health and wellbeing.
