We ask Gary Chen, Director of Pacholm Recruitment Agency, and RMIT alum, six questions about being a business owner.
1. What did you study at RMIT and what attracted you to that program?
I studied a Diploma of Building and Construction and am currently undertaking a Bachelor of Property Development, Investment and Valuation (Honours)
Property is a solid investment vehicle for anyone looking to grow their net worth. You can also get creative with it by doing fixer uppers, subdivisions, building town houses and single residences.
Knowledge gained in the diploma helped me understand the nitty gritty. Knowledge gained from the bachelor's program helped me understand the game.
2. What is your business all about?
Pacholm Recruitment Agency assists businesses in growing their teams.
3. Where do you see your business in 10 years’ time?
We’ll be expanding into growing countries such as Dubai, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines with large workforces predominately in the logistics, transport and constructions.
4. How has studying at RMIT prepared you to run your business?
My time at RMIT further nurtured the importance of great people management. There’s nothing you can’t conquer with a solid team.
5. What advice would you have offered yourself when you first started your business?
Focus on word of mouth. You don’t need to be paying multinational corporations advertising money.
6. What is your favourite part about running a recruitment and labour hire company?
Getting to know people of all different walks of life. Even better is being able to help them.
