5 minutes with Manu Maduri

We ask Manu, Owner and operator of Let’s Eat @ Manu’s Dessert truck and RMIT alum, six questions about being a business owner.

1. What did you study at RMIT and what attracted you to that program?

I studied a Bachelor of Business (Accountancy and Financial Planning). I’ve always wanted to run my own business and thought I needed to have an educational background in business. At that point in time, RMIT’s course met all my criteria.

2. What is your business all about?

We are a family-run (brother-sister duo) dessert truck business, opening our first truck in Clayton in October 2021 and second truck in Cranbourne in September 2022. We started our third truck for events and catering April 2024. Selling loukoumades (greek donuts), churros, jam donuts, waffles, pancakes and much more.

3. Where do you see your business in 10 years’ time?

Ideally, we would love to expand to a few more suburbs of Melbourne and a flagship store in the CBD. We are currently looking for franchisees.

4. How has studying at RMIT prepared you to run your business?

As mentioned, I wanted some educational background. The course was incredibly helpful, in terms of how to approach all the challenges you face. Learning critical thinking and problem solving is incredibly important.

5. What advice would you have offered yourself when you first started your business?

I wish I invested more time, effort and money in marketing and advertising the business. You can have a very good product and business, but it doesn’t help growth without people knowing about it.

6. What's your go-to topping?

My go-to is anything with Nutella and strawberries. My brother also wanted add his answer: white chocolate and pistachios
