About

In August 2024, I joined RMIT University as the inaugural Director (STEM Transnational). In this role, I champion transnational education, research, and industry engagement, overseeing the implementation of ongoing quality improvements in the STEM College offshore teaching and learning delivery, onshore and offshore student experience, and reputation building for international research partnerships and stakeholder engagement. The STEM College at RMIT University incorporates the fields of sciences, engineering, computing technologies, and health and medical sciences. It is part of RMIT University, a public research university in Melbourne, Australia, established in 1887. RMIT is known for its global enterprises and international education and research collaborations.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and a Master's degree in Transport Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I earned a PhD in Commerce at Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. My international academic career includes academic positions at Waikato University (New Zealand), the University of São Paulo (Brazil), the University of Hawaii at Manoa (USA), and Griffith University (Australia).

At Griffith University (2013-2024), I developed a robust interdisciplinary career, fostering meaningful collaborations with aviation and tourism stakeholders. My work includes securing numerous research grants and leading consultancy projects with Australian airports (e.g., Brisbane, Adelaide, and Gold Coast) and Swissport, Acciona Infrastructure Australia, as well as tourism organisations, including Murweh Shire Council, and a recent one in Timor Leste, to develop the blue economy via marine tourism.

Also at Griffith University, I have held several key leadership positions, including Head of Aviation, Deputy Head (Learning and Teaching), Head of the School of Engineering and Built Environment, and Director (Associate Dean) International of the Sciences Group. Additionally, I have served as Deputy Director of the Griffith Institute for Tourism (GIFT), consistently ranked as a top 5 tourism research cluster globally by the QS ranking. I also led the research cluster “The Future of Aviation” at GIFT.

I am a TEQSA Expert, an Australian Institute of Company Directors graduate, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of São Paulo (QS #92). I have dual sector experience, having been the Chair of the Academic Board of an RTO hospitality college in Sydney.
