Dr Laresa Kosloff is Senior Lecturer in the School of Art.
Dr Laresa Kosloff lives and works in Melbourne (Naarm), Australia. Her PhD titled "Slapstick tactics: Staging a Performance of Mimesis in Contemporary Video Art" was a comparative study of early cinematic slapstick and performative video art. She was a founding committee member of Grey Area Art Space Inc. (1996 - 1999); coordinator at Penthouse & Pavement gallery (2001 - 2002); and a committee member of CLUBS Project inc. (2004 - 2008). Laresa currently works as a Supervisor on the Master of Fine Art (coursework) program, and as a Postgraduate Supervisor in the School of Art.
Laresa Kosloff makes performative videos, Super 8 films, installations and live performance works. Her practice examines various representational strategies, each one linked by an interest in the body and its agency within the everyday. Recent artworks have involved a variety of participants including lawn bowlers, celebrity artists, museum visitors, personal trainers, amateur footballers and local residents in Prato, Italy. Recurrent themes in Laresa's work include humour and tension between received cultural values, individual agency and free will.
