Dr. Prem began his academic journey at CIPET: IPT, Ahmedabad, where he achieved a remarkable milestone by clearing the GATE exam on his first attempt, securing a prestigious All India Rank. This success paved the way for him to pursue a direct PhD at CSIR-NCL, where he developed sustainable, high-performance polymeric materials for 3D printing.
His dedication and academic excellence earned him a place in the renowned AcSIR-RMIT dual PhD program, making him one of the few to achieve dual doctorates – in Polymer Engineering from CSIR-NCL and Aerospace Engineering from RMIT University, Australia. His groundbreaking research advanced thermoplastic polyimides and biodegradable polymers, unlocking new possibilities in 3D printing and thermal protection systems.
Currently, Dr. Prem serves as a Postdoctoral Researcher at RMIT University, where he leads innovative projects on high-performance polymers for aerospace and defence applications, including materials designed for hypersonic missile systems. His expertise encompasses polymer functionalization, nanocomposite materials, thermal and thermomechanical properties, and additive manufacturing.
Over the years, he has collaborated with prominent global partners such as IISER Pune, IIT Madras, NASA (in collaboration with the University of Texas, USA), Boeing Australia, and Silon (Czech Republic). His contributions have significantly advanced additive manufacturing and sustainable materials, resulting in numerous peer-reviewed publications and patents currently under review.
Beyond his research, Dr. Prem co-founded the AM Plus Club, where he served as the first General Secretary, championing innovation and entrepreneurship in additive manufacturing. He also contributes to Innovate 3D Global as an Advisor and Market Development Officer.
A mentor to PhD and master’s students, Dr. Prem also supports undergraduate teaching and actively engages in community outreach programs, inspiring young minds to dream big. His journey exemplifies a commitment to advancing polymer science, fostering innovation, and making a meaningful impact on both industry and society.
