Associate Professor Terry Piva's research interests are in the following areas:

Teaching responsibilities
Terry is the Course Coordinator for BIOL2272 Biology of the Cell and BIOL2299 Biology of Tissue Growth and Repair.
Terry delivers lectures, runs tutorial and prac classes to students from many programs (Biomedical Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Laboratory Medicine, Pharmacy, Exercise & Sport Science, Physical & Health Education, Osteopathy, Chiropractic, Chinese Medicine, Applied Science) on various topics in the areas of Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Cancer, Immunology and Cell Signalling.

Educational development work
- In 2015, Terry along with the Hons coordinator developed a single Honours program for the School of Medical Sciences that replaced six existing programs.
- In 2015 Terry was invited to be an external assessor of the Biomedical Sciences Honours program at Central Queensland University.
- In 2013-2014 Terry oversaw all the submissions from the School of Medical Sciences to ensure that all programs and courses delivered by the School met AQF compliance.
- In 2013, Terry chaired the Midwifery Postgraduate Program Review Panel for School of Health Sciences at RMIT.
- In 2006 Terry led the team that created the Bachelor of Applied Science (Biomedical Science) program, in 2010 it was renamed Bachelor of Biomedical Science.
- In 2005, Terry was invited to be a member of the External Review Panel of graduate coursework programs offered by the Faculty of Sciences at the University of New England.
- In 2003 and 2004 Terry was involved in the restructuring of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences) program.
- In 2003 Terry oversaw the development of the Bachelor of Applied Science (Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences) (Honours) program which was renamed in 2006 to the Bachelor of Applied Science (Biomedical Science) (Honours) program.
