Dr Patricia Pariona-Cabrera is a Lecturer in People and Organisation at the School of Management at RMIT University. Patricia holds a PhD in human resource management (HRM). Her PhD illuminates how HRM practices moderate the effects of workplace violence on mental health. Findings from her study give a better understanding of the role of wellbeing oriented HRM practices to manage and mitigate the negative consequences of workplace violence on Australian nurses’ and personal care assistants’ (PCAs) mental health. Prior to completing her PhD she practised as a Psychologist with over 10 years of experience in Human Resource Management (HRM) working with clients and managing staff across community health services, welfare centres, and educational institutions. This has been supported with a Statement of Psychology Qualifications by the Australian Psychological Society (APS). Patricia’s research focuses on human resource management (HRM), people/HR analytics, organisational psychology, workplace violence, mental health, the healthcare and aged care sector, and workers with disabilities. Patricia is a passionate researcher and academic lecturer. Patricia was a winner of the Capgemini Higher Degree by Research (HDR) Prize and Award from the College of Business and Law, School of Management, 2022. This prize is awarded to HDR graduates based on research output, leadership, and time completion. Patricia was also recipient of the Early Career Researcher Award from the School of Management, 2022. This award recognises her contributions to research and innovation. Patricia’s experience in working with different industries including healthcare and aged care sectors informs her industry-focused research and teaching.
Dr Patricia Pariona-Cabrera is currently the Course Coordinator of People Analytics (undergraduate program) and Predictive HR analytics (postgraduate program). Patricia has a strong interest in People Analytics, HRM and mixed methods approaches to teaching. She has demonstrated experience and capacity of teaching and learning at the tertiary education level by supporting teaching excellence and using her coordination skills to work constructively with fellow academics to support students’ goals. Patricia’s aim is to support students to achieve their professional objectives in alignment with student-centred requirements of the School of Management.
Dr Patricia Pariona-Cabrera has published research examining the effects of wellbeing HRM practices and anti-violence HRM on employees’ mental health in different industries including nursing, aged care workers, paramedicine and police officers. Patricia’s expertise lies in designing and running quantitative (e.g., surveys) and qualitative (e.g., interview and focus group) studies, which she has successfully done in partnership with external collaborators such as Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF), Victorian Ambulance Union, Victorian Allied Health Professionals Association (VAHPA), and the Police Association of Victoria (TPAV). Patricia has co-published refereed journal articles and book chapters. She was a guest-editor for Personnel Review on HRM and workplace violence. She was a guest-editor for the Asia Pacific Journal of Human Resources on the topic of HR analytics and Artificial Intelligence. The publication of her scholarly work was recognised in 2019 when she was awarded the Best Research Publication Award. She is an active research member of different project teams within RMIT University and works in collaboration with other universities.
