Dr. Behzad Abbasnejad is an academic and researcher specializing in Building Information Modelling (BIM), digital construction management, organizational learning, Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA), and construction quality costs. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from Iran (2011), a Master's degree by research in Education from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden (2013), and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Queensland University of Technology, Australia (2018).
Passionate about architecture and the built environment, Dr. Behzad has been practicing and teaching in Melbourne and Hong Kong for about five years. He teaches Introduction to Buildings (BUIL1226) and Integrated Building Information Modelling (BUIL1256) at RMIT University, focusing on foundational building concepts, construction methodologies, and the integration of digital technologies in construction processes.
Dr. Behzad has published over 30 academic papers and technical reports in the fields of architecture, BIM, construction management, and digital construction manufacturing. His research primarily explores the implementation of BIM and digital construction methods to enhance efficiency, quality, and sustainability in the built environment. His work emphasizes optimizing workflows, fostering innovation, and improving construction practices through data-driven decision-making.
He has received research funding in several areas, including digital manufacturing and automating assembly processes, developing virtual site visits for photovoltaic (PV) panels in existing homes, and data modelling to streamline logistics for prefabricated building components. His contributions aim to bridge the gap between research and industry, advancing digital construction practices and sustainable built-environment solutions.
