About

Dr Tanveer Adyel, with an academic background in Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering, works on a) plastic pollution and b) urban stormwater engineering areas.

Tanveer’s multidisciplinary research on plastic pollution covers diverse spatial areas, including coastal wetlands, constructed wetlands, freshwater ecosystems and soil. His works apply advanced analytical tools, microbial ecology and modelling to assess the fate and transport of plastic pollution within the environmental matrix. He is expanding his research domain on circular economy and alternative financial approach/accounting on plastic pollution management. Recently, Tanveer received a highly prestigious and competitive Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) Fellowship from the Australian Research Council to work on microplastics within Australian coastal wetlands. He also received the Thomas Davies Research Grant for Marine, Soil and Plant Biology (2024) for oxygen profiling in microplastic-exposed sediment.

Tanveer also works on urban stormwater management using nature-based solutions (NbS) or water sensitive urban design (WSUD) approaches. He is particularly interested in working with constructed wetlands and rain gardens on urban stormwater pollutant attenuation.

Tanveer has several awards and fellowships in recognition of his research, including the Victorian Young Tall Poppy Scientist of the Year (2022); Deakin University Award for Scientific Publication (2022); AGU 100 Centennial Award (2019), etc.

Hiring fully funded MS/PhD candidates: Fully funded MS/PhD scholarships are available. Some potential MS/PhD topics are:

  1. Molecular-level insight into microplastics -derived dissolved organic matter
  2. Greenhouse gas emissions from coastal wetlands under microplastic exposure
  3. Coastal wetland plastisphere as a new biotope
  4. Role of oxygen dynamics on effects of microplastics on blue carbon
  5. Alternative financial approach/accounting on plastic pollution management
  6. Circular economy in plastic waste sector
  7. Plastic treaty on horizon: measure its effectiveness

If you are motivated and meet all required conditions, pls reach out. In your email, pls attach your CV, transcripts, English proficiency test score (if applicable), a short proposal on the proposed project, and a short video indicating why you are interested and the best fit for this project. You can also propose your own topic.
